Help With Baby Acne

Baby acne is very common in newborns but also quite alarming to new moms.  But you can be rest assured that baby acne is not a serious issue.  Something else you need not lose sleep over is looking for causes or cures.  There isn’t a lot you can do but there isn’t a lot that is needed to be done.

It is quite common for the baby acne to appear around the two week mark.  In most cases it will show up as small whiteheads that are a little swollen and red.  The irritations are commonly found on the cheeks, chin, forehead and sometimes the back.

As a teenager or an adult we can quite often blame the acne on hormones resulting in very oily skin.  However with the baby acne there is no real idea as to the cause of it so that’s why there are no real treatments for it.  The comforting thing is that it will usually not be around any longer than a few weeks before it totally disappears.

Many people believe the baby acne is because of the baby spitting up or rubbing on bedding that may have soap that they react to.  There is a simple fix for this and that’s change to a more gentle soap.  Also it never hurts to once in a while wash the baby’s face with a warm damp cloth.

One thing we do recommend against is trying the home remedies we may have been taught earlier in life.  Many times on newborn baby acne this will just irritate the skin more and make things worse.  When the acne is on your baby the only real and safe recommendation is wash baby’s face once a day with a warn cloth with a mild soap.  Now if you really are concerned of course you should take your baby to the doctor.  If the doctor feels its necessary he may prescribe a light cream but for the most part that doesn’t even happen.
